Our Story

In the summer of 2008, The Holst Family lost their 4-year-old son to fatal drowning in a public life-guarded pool the day after he successfully completed swim lessons. Adult family and friends were nearby. The water wasn’t deep. He wasn’t “goofing around.”

Colin still drowned....quickly and silently.

In the wake of their loss, Colin's family searched for answers. What they found was nothing short of hearbreaking - drowning is the #1 cause of unintentional injury-related death for children under 5 and a leading cause for children 1-14. This knowledge had come too late for the Holsts. Colin was already gone. Yet, the learned something else they felt everyone needed to know - DROWNING IS PREVENTABLE!

In the hopes of preventing the same tragedy from happening to other families, the Holst Family started Colin’s Hope, a nonprofit organization, to help spread the message that drowning is preventable. Our vision is simple: We envision a world where children don't drown. Therefore, we strive to raise water safety awareness and educate children, parents, and caregivers in order to prevent drownings. Working alongside experts, we have become experts ourselves and offer water safetyresources to keep you and your family safer around water.
